Mallorca-based, Madrid-born artist Edurne Camacho has always been a rebel. After years spent travelling the world, including stints in Ibiza, Paris, Madrid, and Berlin, Edurne discovered an unlikely creative outlet: carpet making. Using textile technique that focuses around the use of an air-compressed tufting gun, Edurne crafts striking hand-made carpets with bold colour palettes for her business Flying Carpet Studio. All pieces are made using high-quality natural fibres with a focus on therapeutic colour work. “By living from authenticity, I have been able to connect with my most creative side,” she tells trobat. Read Edurne’s interview with Trobat and shop her exclusive selection of pieces on trobat.co below.
In 2021 I encountered a textile technique and decided to focus my current practice around using a compressed air pneumatic tufting gun. I am self-taught, using the Internet for reference, however from a very early age I have been painting with oils, later developing my practice using graphic design, photography and fashion.
It has come naturally to me. By living from authenticity, I have been able to connect with my most creative side.
I am mostly inspired by my feelings, nature, my son Jupiter and the way he sees life. I don’t tend to idolize anyone, although I do admire effort and skill. My husband is a great artist, his music inspires me a lot too.
Flying Carpets has started like many great projects… from the garage at home. The space offers me a wonderful atmosphere. The workshop is my altar, my cave. It is a treasure with stunning views of the twin mountains of Alaró, with its almond blossom and the morning sun streaming through the open door. As I work, I am connected to the outside world, the distant sound of sheep and the many conversations I have with walkers going to the castle, who stop to ask me about my work.
Anyone who made me laugh the weekend before, usually I’d cook something vegetarian with lots of spices.
I am currently studying “Awakening the Third Eye” by Samuel Sagan. Usually, I read books about personal development and self-knowledge. In terms of novels… I already have too many in my personal life!
My facet as a healing therapist has been set aside for the moment. I believe that through art I am consolidating my intuition and later on I will deepen my practice on a professional level, it is something that is written, it inevitably follows me.
I am a Taurus, an earthy and Venusian sign. My friends are telling me that I embody my sign very much! As I am very connected to my senses, to the beauty of Life of enjoying being in a beautiful home with my family and soul family, cooking and sharing food. I surround myself with art and beauty, it is a need, I find my anchor and balance in Harmony. Living in Mallorca feeds it all, the beauty is all around, the earth is generous. The island is very healing to me and very inspiring for my work and creativity.
