Andrés Sanchez known as Piro (Plasencia, Spain 1994)  is a visual-expressionist artist. His work investigates through the vital impulse and towards the line, in a continuous search to generate a
character work sensory. Expressionism is manifested through progressive impulses translated into lines and characterized for the plastic freshness, where color and vibration permeate the entire canvas. A job autobiographical full of identity and energy that generate fully sensorial works. Graduated in Design from the Complutense University of Madrid, he began exploring the creation artistic on the street from his pseudonym “Misterpiro” a baggage that he took with him integrated into his work in the studio where he spends most of his time and where freedom, experimentation and Expressionism plays with all types of surfaces and objects.
I’ve never been able to label myself. Something between contemporary and multidisciplinary artist, because of the variety of media and collaborations I do. Not so much as an urban artist as I don’t work much in the street anymore, although of course those are my roots, that’s where it all comes from. I started painting murals when I was only 12 years old, I didn’t know that I wanted to be an artist, I didn’t really know what it was, much less how the art market worked or how I could make a living from it. But here I am many years later, I didn’t do anything else, it was always my job.
I think it was always there. As I said, I’ve never worked in anything else, I don’t know how to do anything else! Haha. This has been a slow and steady growth. A bit unconscious at the beginning, as I only wanted to paint, I didn’t know how the market worked, so when I grew up and went to university to do graphic design, I had to become aware and choose the right path and not waste time on other things. Of course I gave up my degree because I didn’t want to design, I wanted to paint.
Many, although more than artists what inspires me are individual works that I keep. With the daily information overload and social media I’m terrible at remembering names and people but I have a great visual memory and I remember all their works. Artists that inspire me a lot are for example Turner, Helen Frankenthaler, Cy Twombly or Kooning, Gerhard Ritcher, Joan Mitchell, also more recent generations such as Julio Galindo, Katerina Grosse, Frederic Anderson, Vivian Suter or Mary Weatherford, but above all I look at everything that is happening now, there is a very strong contemporary abstract scene of artists of my generation like Marcel rozek, Nils Jendri, Marco Pariani or conversations with friends like Javier Ruiz, Ana Barriga, Carlos Pesudo, Gabriel Coca, Amaya Suberviola, Gripface, Roberto Rivadeneira or Seleka.
I have always been a nomad with my artist friend Sabek. We have been partners for many years and we have moved a lot together until we found the definitive space. Now we have a big studio in Carabanchel, with exhibition space, a kitchen to have meals with friends and a big space with high ceilings to work in. There is a nice light and always good music playing. Every day we have friends coming to telecommute and have lunch with us. We are very well surrounded by a lot of super interesting artist friends’ studios, there is a good synergy in the neighbourhood and that is very inspiring. It’s a really good feeling when you know it’s your ultimate studio, it’s like your temple. It’s also very close to my house and this makes me have a very nice routine, as if I lived in my home town.
I would love to get a lot of my artist references together and make a super interesting table. But the truth is that I am lucky to have the best friends in the world and the funniest ones too. I wouldn’t trade them for anything or anyone. Also, when I’m at a dinner or a party I don’t like to talk about work, I usually do dinners where I bring together a lot of people I love or like with other people and they get to know each other and things happen. I love that. I would serve a mix between Mediterranean and Oriental food, I love fish. And the Gildas are a must.
Right now I’m reading a book by Wim Wenders called “The Pixels of CĂ©zanne”. It’s a very interesting compilation of notes, letters and publications he wrote throughout his career where he talks about how different artists, photographers or other directors have inspired him when directing his films.
Gastronomic entrepreneur, no doubt.
I am a Scorpio, and I don’t know about other signs, but I know about my own and I am very much so.
