Ca’n Joan de s’Aigo was one of the first ice cream parlors to open in Mallorca and is one of the oldest chocolate shops in Europe. The first Ca’n Joan de s’Aigo opened in Palma in 1700. Almost two centuries later, in 1977, they moved to Carrer C’an Sanç, due to the dilapidation of the original building. The second most emblematic premises is located on Carrer del Baró, and the third and newest, on Carrer del Sindicat, which, although it has a less vintage and somewhat more modern touch, maintains the very high quality of its offer. Today, this café is famous for its hot chocolate, its “cuarto” (a delicious spongy sponge cake, perfect for dipping with chocolate), its “ensaimadas” and its handmade ice cream. They have a wide variety of sweet and savory pastries, including typical pastries such as “robiols”, “crespells” and “coques”. Despite its reputation, the prices are reasonable. A coffee and an ensaimada are priced at about 3.50€ approximately.
